Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF)

DAF was Set up on 24th March 1992 on the recommendations of the Centenary Celebrations Committee heded by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, to implement the programmes and activities for furthering the ideology and message of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar among the masses in India as well as abroad. along with the mandate To manage , administer and carry on the important and long-term schemes and programmes identified during the Centenary Celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Nature of Organisation:

A Society set up under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, registered under the Registration of Societies Act, 1860.
Also registered as a charitable institution U/S 12(A) and 80(G) of Income Tax Act. Fully funded by the Government of India.

Schemes, Programmes & Projects:

  • Dr. Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme for SCs & STs.
  • Dr. Ambedkar Chairs in Universities/Institutions.
  • Dr.Ambedkar National Merit Award Scheme for SC/ST students for Class 10th level
  • Dr.Ambedkar National Merit Award Scheme for SC students for Class 12th level
  • Celebration of Birth Anniversaries of Great Saints
  • Dr. Ambedkar National Essay Competition Scheme
  • Dr. Ambedkar International Award for Social Change.
  • Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Lecture
  • Celebration of Birth Anniversary and Mahaparinirwan Diwas of Dr. Ambedkar on 14th April & 6th December respectively in Parliament House Lawns.
  • Publication of the Collected Works of Baba Saheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Hindi and 8 regional languages viz. Tamil, Telugu, Odiya, Malyalam, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu & Bengali.
  • Dr. Ambedkar International Centre at 15 Janpath, New Delhi.
  • Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial & Museum at 26, Alipur Road, Delhi.

Dr. Ambedkar International Centre:

  • Setting up of ‘Dr. Ambedkar National Library’ at 15,Janpath New Delhi was one of the important decisions taken by the Centenary Celebrations Committee (CCC) of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
  • With the approval of PMO, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), vide its OM NO. 17020/2/2011-SCD-VI dated 29th November, 2011, set up a High Level Committee (HLC) for planning the development of a Library titled as ‘Dr. Ambedkar International Centre’ at 15, Janpath, New Delhi.
  • The HLC submitted its report on ‘Centre’ on 8.09.2012 which was accepted by the Government. The work of construction of the International Centre has been entrusted to the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) on the recommendation of the Ministry of Urban Development.
  • The Hon’ble Prime Minister has laid the foundation stone of the “Centre” on 20th April, 2015 in a special function at 15, Janpath.
  • Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC) has been dedicated to the Nation by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 07.12.2017.

Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial & Muesum:

The Dr. Ambedkar Mahaparinirvan Sthal at 26, Alipur Road, Delhi, was dedicated to the Nation by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 02.12.2003. With the approval of PMO, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), vide its OM NO. 17020/2/2011-SCD-VI dated 29th November, 2011, set up a High Level Committee (HLC) for planning the development of Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial at 26, Alipur Road, Delhi . The HLC submitted its reports of ‘Memorial’ on 14.6.2012 which was accepted by the Government Of India.
The work of construction of the Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial (DANM) at 26, Alipur Road, Delhi has been entrusted to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) on the recommendation of the Ministry of Urban Development.
The Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial (DANM) has been dedicated to the Nation by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 13.04.2018.
