DR. AMBEDKAR CHAIRS

 

 

 

Objective

 

In pursuance of the recommendation of Dr. Ambedkar Birth Centenary Celebrations Committee, the scheme of establishment of Dr. Ambedkar Chairs was undertaken by this Foundation in the year 1993.

 

The broad objective of this Scheme is to provide well equipped centres of learning to intellectuals, academicians, and students to undertake studies and research with an intention to understand asses and disseminate ideas and thoughts of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar particularly on subjects like Economics, Political Science, Religion, Philosophy, Constitutional Studies, Education, Social work, Human Rights as well as other disciplines considered relevant for attainment of our national goal of Social Justice.  In achieving this objective the Chair will also undertake research and higher studies concerning the socio-economic and cultural life of the marginalised groups and other weaker sections of the society.  The Chairs would strive to develop appropriate methodologies to translate, Dr. Ambedkar ideas into practical propositions and policy instruments. The specific areas of research mainly learning in the concerned disciplines will he spelt out in the Memorandum of understanding to be signed jointly by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation and the concerned University/Institute.

Grants

 

            As per the earlier Scheme, annual grants of Rs.2.00 Lakhs per year were provided to each Chair till 1996-97. The Governing Body of the Foundation in its meeting held on 4.7.1997 decided to enhance the annual grants from Rs.2.00 lakhs to Rs.10.00 lakhs per year besides providing initial establishment charges of Rs.2.00 lakhs for procuring the necessary infrastructure facilities.
